Occupational Disease and Survivor Benefits Program Value-for-Money Audit

Each year, we are required under Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) to have an external firm review the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of one or more WSIB programs through a Value-for-Money Audit (VFMA). The latest VFMA focused on our Occupational Disease and Survivor Benefits Program.

Findings

The VFMA (PDF) found that:

  • “there is significant value in the WSIB delivering the program in support of its legislative obligations”; and
  • “the program is administered in an efficient manner that meets the needs of both workers and employers.”

While the program is delivering value-for-money, the audit also made recommendations to further strengthen and improve the program. We want to make sure that our programs are effective and that we provide the best service possible. We agree that the recommendations in the audit will improve the performance of the Occupational Disease and Survivor Benefits Program. We take the effectiveness of our programs very seriously and we are developing a series of initiatives to address the audit’s recommendations.
