Physician learning modules

These short, interactive modules offer practical information about working with the WSIB and achieving the best possible outcomes for patients with work-related injury or illness. Physicians can earn Mainpro+ credits from the College of Family Physicians of Canada by completing each module. This one-credit –per-hour Self-Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Ontario Chapter for up to 1 Mainpro+ credits.

Each module will launch in a new browser window. Audio narration will play automatically for each screen. If you use a screen reader program like JAWS, ZoomText or Dragon Naturally Speaking, turn on your screen reader and  turn off the course audio by confirming your choice at the accessibility slide found in each module.

1. Introduction to the WSIB (15 minutes, 0.25 Mainpro+ credits)

At the conclusion of this module you will be able to:

  • Explain how work can impact patient health
  • List the principles of workplace insurance
  • Describe the role of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

2. Form 8: clinical highlights (15 minutes, 0.25 Mainpro+ credits)

At the conclusion of this module you will be able to:

  • Identify when you can fill out a Form 8
  • Explain how to describe a mechanism of injury
  • Employ an approach to providing functional abilities
  • Recognize the value of discussing return to work with patients

3. Billing: registration and patient care (15 minutes, 0.25 Mainpro+ credits)

At the conclusion of this module you will be able to:

  • Identify how to register with the WSIB
  • Describe how to bill for the care of patients with work-related injury or illness
  • Explain when to bill the WSIB directly for patient care

4. Billing: forms and other communications (15 minutes, 0.25 Mainpro+ credits)

At the conclusion of this module you will be able to:

  • Identify how to bill for filling out WSIB forms
  • Describe how to bill for reports and photocopies requested by the WSIB
  • Explain how to bill for phone calls from the WSIB
