I think I contracted COVID-19 at work. What should I do?

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should tell your employer about your illness and get tested as soon as possible. If you test positive for COVID-19 (with or without symptoms), you should file a claim for benefits with the WSIB. We will work with you and your employer to help you recover and return to work safely.

How do I file a WSIB claim?

You can file a claim on our website or call us at 1-800-387-0750 and we can help you file a claim. We have translators available to help.

If I test positive for COVID-19 and am not able to work, will I receive my pay while I am recovering?

Yes. If the WSIB allows your claim, you will receive loss-of-earnings benefits (and other benefits as necessary) while you are recovering and until you are able to return to work.

If I test positive for COVID-19, do I have to pay for my accommodation while isolating at a hotel or other location?

No. It is your employer’s responsibility to provide accommodation for you while you are recovering. We will work with you and your employer to help you recover and return to work safely.

Do I need an OHIP number to be tested for COVID-19?

No. You do not need an OHIP number to be tested for COVID-19. Please speak to staff at the testing centre to find out how to receive your test results.

Does the WSIB pay for alternate accommodation if my workers contract COVID-19 and have to isolate?

No. It is your responsibility to provide accommodation for your workers while they are isolating and recovering.
