2017 Annual Report highlights

The WSIB’s 2017 Annual Report highlights the accomplishments made in 2017 toward improving outcomes for those we serve.

Some highlights for Schedule 1 include:

  • Nearly 91 per cent of people who lost time at work due to an injury or illness returned to work within one year without any loss of income; and
  • Eighty-eight per cent of people unable to return to their pre-injury job were able to find work after completing a Work Transition plan.

The Annual Report also highlights how in 2017 we:

  • Launched Compass and the Health and Safety Index, which put the power of health and safety data in the hands of Ontarians;
  • Hosted the first-ever small business health and safety leadership awards; and
  • Transferred the management of our invested assets to the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario.

Also, 2017 saw a strengthening of our financial position. We ended the year with a Sufficiency Ratio of 95.8 per cent, corresponding to an unfunded liability of $1.3 billion. This is $2.7 billion dollars less, on a Sufficiency Ratio basis, than the same time last year.
