A worker may be entitled to a home care program if the worker's treating health professional specifies at least one professional health service is needed.
Guidelines
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria are as follows
the worker is under the clinical supervision of a treating health professional
the worker's work-related clinical condition is such that the worker can be treated adequately at home with the services available through the home care program
the worker's needs cannot be met on an out-patient basis
the worker is in need of at least one of the professional services, such as nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy
the home is suitable from a health care standpoint to enable the required care to be given
the worker's family, where applicable, is willing and able to participate in the program where and when required
the worker resides in the area designated as being covered by the home care program
when there is doubt pertaining to eligibility criteria, the case should be referred to the WSIB's medical consultant.
NOTE
Home making services do not qualify in the category of a professional service but may be included as one component of the program.
Payment
Home care program services are paid at the per diem rate approved by the WSIB.
Application date
This policy applies to all decisions made on or after December 31, 1985, for all accidents.
