Promoting sustainable and responsible practices
At the WSIB, we recognize the importance of environmental sustainability and strive to minimize our environmental footprint. We implement environmentally responsible practices and initiatives to ensure that we respect the land we live on and make it a safe place to live for future generations.
Our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment is exemplified in how we’ve designed the space around WSIB Place, our new head office in London. We are dedicated to preserving the biodiversity of the 50-acre property – including oak and walnut trees – and have integrated sustainable practices such as using groundwater to flush washrooms and irrigate the gardens.
Food garden
We’ve partnered with Growing Chefs Ontario to donate an acre of land at WSIB Place for a fruit, vegetable and herb garden in collaboration with the London Food Bank. The garden will help those experiencing food insecurity in the London area and support educating local youth about nutritious food. Since July 2025, 4,000 lbs of food have been grown and harvested and we’re planning for over 10,000 lbs by summer 2026.
Polinator garden
We planted a pollinator garden to play a vital role in supporting local plant reproduction and a healthy ecosystem and provide a space for WSIB team members to connect with nature.
Local communities
We donated the equivalent of ~$750,000 of in-kind items (furniture, equipment, supplies) to support 89 community organizations.
Reducing our waste
Supporting the environment
