Modified work suggestions
On this page, businesses can find industry-specific modified duties or tasks for employees when a person is temporarily unable to return to the duties they were doing before their injury or illness.
This can be especially helpful during the early stages of recovery if a person has limited functional abilities that restrict them from doing their pre-injury job (with or without accommodations).
Research shows returning to work as soon as possible enhances recovery and is important for both physical and mental health. It can also get people back to their pre-injury responsibilities quicker.
Businesses in the same industry have successfully offered these modified duty/task options to employees with injuries or illnesses.
To use:
- Select or enter the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) classification code. If needed, find your NAICS code by logging into your online services account or using the Employer Classification Manual (ECM). Note: for Schedule 2 businesses that do not have a NAICS classification code, enter the pre-injury job title into the Employer Classification Manual (ECM) and select the most appropriate NAICS code to use.
- Review the list of potential modified duties and tasks from the list and select the ones you have available and that fit the person’s current abilities.
- Add any additional suitable duties or tasks that you have available by selecting ‘Other’. Separate each duty or task with a comma.
- You will be provided with a sample templated letter with the selected duties or tasks to make an offer of work to your employee.
