Mental health program of care

The mental health program of care is a contracted, community-based mental health care program. Through the program, people with mental stress-related claims will have access to timely assessment and different types of treatment options.

The mental health program of care replaces the former community mental health program. As of April 27, 2026, mental health assessments and treatments can be delivered through the mental health program of care. There will be a transition period until September 1, 2026.

The information on this page is for health care professionals. See work-related mental stress injuries for information on how to submit a claim or the services we provide.

Key components

  • The mental health program of care is based on recovery best practices and is tailored to what each person’s needs.
  • A range of providers in the program – including occupational therapists, psychotherapists, social workers, nurses and psychologists – make sure people have access to the different types of treatment they may need.
  • Contracted health care providers deliver care according to program guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • People with mental stress injuries must receive approval from the WSIB to participate in the program.
  • There are two types of treatment services that people can participate in either separately or at the same time:
    • Psychotherapy that can take place in a clinic or office.
    • Functional recovery that can take place in the community and/or the workplace.
