WSIB Grants Program now accepting proposals for return to work and recovery and innovations in service

Toronto, January 9, 2017 – The 2017 application process for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s (WSIB) Grants Program opened today. Through the Program, the WSIB invites proposals for highly practical expert research studies and training initiatives to achieve better return-to-work and recovery outcomes for injured and ill workers, and to deliver innovations in service within Ontario’s workplace compensation system.

"As a leading workplace compensation board, we are committed to providing the best possible outcomes for injured and ill workers and for delivering an overall positive experience for workers and employers,” said WSIB President and CEO Thomas Teahen. "We received an outstanding response to the program last year in terms of volume and quality of applications. We expect this year’s program to once again attract significant interest from experts in this field.”

The WSIB accepts the following types of proposals through the Grants Program:

  • Highly practical, expert research studies
  • Workplace-based projects that establish partnerships between the workplace, researchers, and organizations
  • Training initiatives delivered by highly qualified professionals that resolve long-standing barriers or address emerging issues.

The deadline for submitting initial proposals is March 3, 2017.

The WSIB Grants Program involves a rigorous proposal selection process. Initial proposals will be reviewed by the WSIB Grants Evaluation Committee, and successful applicants will be invited to submit more detailed information. Those interested in applying should check the WSIB website for details about the 2017 Grants Program application process and initial proposal form, as well as priority areas and topics of interest.

Information about the grant recipients and their projects will be available on the WSIB website upon conclusion of the selection process.
