Allowed lost-time claims by age and gender
Over the past decade, Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey on employment has reported that the gender demographic of Ontario’s employed workforce is 52 per cent men and 48 per cent women. Of the WSIB’s Schedule 1 allowed lost-time claims where gender was reported, 61 per cent of these claims were from men and 39 per cent from women for the same period of time.
A difference in gender distribution between the WSIB’s Schedule 1 allowed lost-time claims and Ontario’s employed workforce is shown with men accounting for nearly two-thirds of Schedule 1’s allowed lost-time claims but representing just over half of Ontario’s workforce.
The percentage of allowed lost-time claims for people 55 years of age and older has slightly increased over the last 10 years. This is consistent with Statistics Canada’s employment trends and reflects the aging of Ontario’s workforce. Overall among all age groups, people 25 to 54 years of age continue to account for the highest percentage of Schedule 1’s allowed lost-time claims.
